Mission Statement

AMP! Metro Richmond is a vibrant mentoring program in the Richmond Region where adults and youth meet weekly to share interests, learn from each other, and "amplify" their perspectives on what can be as they develop their friendship.

Originating in 2006, AMP! is normally a school-based mentoring program. However, for the 2020/21 school year, we will be operating virtually via Zoom. Mentors come from Richmond corporations, government, and small businesses who provide support, friendship, reinforcement, and a constructive example to middle school students. AMP! mentors listen, care, and help students bring out their strengths. Currently, AMP! collaborates with the administration of Thomas C Boushall Middle School on Richmond's southside to fulfill AMP!'s mission.

Our mission and vision are simple. AMP!'s mission is to connect students and mentors through school-based mentoring to amplify perspectives on what can be. Our goal is to create self-confidence, stimulate learning, and encourage career discovery for middle school youths in the Richmond Region. Our vision is a Richmond Region where all youth believe they can achieve.

Description

Originating in 2006, AMP! is a school-based mentoring program with mentors from Richmond corporations, government, and small businesses who provide support, friendship, reinforcement, and a constructive example to middle school students. AMP! mentors listen, care, and help students bring out their strengths. Currently, AMP! collaborates with the administration of Thomas C Boushall Middle School on Richmond's southside to fulfill AMP!'s mission.

AMP! mentoring is a one-to-one relationship between an adult volunteer and a middle-school student. AMP! currently operates in Boushall Middle School in Richmond's southside. AMP! mentors commit to one hour on the designated mentoring days in a semester (usually 10-14 days during each semester). The hour and day of the week are always around lunchtime on the same day of the week. All AMP! mentors complete an application, provide references, agree to a background check, and complete an orientation and training provided by MENTOR Virginia and AMP!.

The most frequent comment we hear from mentors is "Mentoring is the best part of my week."
