Mission Statement

The primary goal of the mentoring program is to provide mentors to at risk
minority males form single-parent families. The inherent purpose of the mentoring
program is to stop negativism before it starts. The mentoring program volunteers will
focus on skills the child needs to avoid the everyday pressures surrounding him. The
volunteers of this program are composed of a cross-section from college students,
local professionals, and community volunteers. Individuals are trained in the
importance of their role and the potential affects that it can have on the child.

Description

Job Description: The volunteer is to assist in supplemental instruction and non-instructional
activities under the direct supervision of a City of Refuge U.B.T.M Rep. The specific duties, time, days, and number of hours will be those agreed upon by the
organization/site supervisor assisted and the volunteer.
Responsibilities and Tasks: To help "at risk" youth develop amore positive attitude toward themselves, their school work and their fellow student, to respect the school policies; we
also want our volunteers to follow the Code of Ethics by understanding that discussion of confidential matters is unacceptable.

Qualifications: Must enjoy working with children and be able to relate to them in a
positive manner; is free of communicable disease; and is patient, respectful, cheerful and
willing to follow directions.
