Mission Statement

SPARK seeks to make high-quality education more accessible by offering free student-led classes in a variety of subjects to underserved populations. The Med-ucate program’s mission is to promote awareness about the importance of self-care through student-run community service events and online initiatives. We believe in equalizing disparities in education for all students to prepare them for life beyond high school. At Med-ucate, we strive to help break down the barriers that prevent all children from career achievement, particularly around health and medicine.

Description

Millions of children around the world are unable to gain access to free, high-quality education. We want to be part of the solution to this problem - starting in our own community. SPARK was founded in 2018 by a group of students with a passion for teaching, and over the past three years, our volunteers have taught live classes to hundreds of students around the world. We work with amazing partner organizations to personalize class content and orient curricula to each student's needs. While there are many remarkable charities working in the education space, SPARK's own work lies in fostering important life skills such as confidence and self-care in its students through its specialized courses.

The Med-ucate team works with public libraries, after school programs (including for neurodiverse children), and homeless shelters in the US, Hong Kong, and Liberia. From designing online courses, to hosting live classes and webinars, to running blogs and podcasts, there are abundant ways toyour own community, and a broader one. Engage with this team of students as inspired to bridge the gap in health education as you, earn volunteer hours, and even start your own Med-ucate program if you wish!
