The mission of the Mediation Center is to harness the power of qualified volunteers, to facilitate the process of citizens proactively managing conflict, and to provide alternatives to litigation and increase access to justice. Our organization values include inclusiveness, teamwork, accountability, and integrity.
For thirty years, the Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire has helped the Savannah community resolve conflict through different services and educational programs. As the Neighbor to Neighbor Mediation Center, we incorporated February 27, 1986 and changed our name to The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire, Inc., in September of 2001. Over the last twenty years, the Mediation Center has trained over 200 volunteer mediators, conducted over 8,000 mediations and facilitated nearly five thousand settlements. Our goals are to provide and promote within the community methods other than litigation for settling disputes, which alternatives (including but not limited to mediation) shall be confidential, inexpensive, prompt and readily accessible to everyone; to maintain a trained, qualified and competent staff to provide these alternative methods and to conduct a program of continuing training and other means of quality assurance; and to provide opportunities for training in alternative dispute resolution to schools, other agencies, and or individuals, in order to enhance these skills throughout the community. We have 150+ volunteers and provide services in-person and virtually. Current programs include mediation, mediation training, co-parenting classes, youth programs, community conferencing, and community conversations.
