As Development Lead, you will plan, direct and coordinate all the Sanctuary Hostel’s funding, donor, and grant plans and campaigns. You'll recruit and support your own team of fundraising and grants managers and will be responsible for the work completed. This role will work closely with all of Sanctuary’s constituents to ensure the long-term success of the organization. Our Leadership Team meets biweekly, typically on a weekday at 5PM or 6PM Pacific time. Candidates with Startup experience or experience dealing with ambiguity and building from scratch highly preferred. Key Responsibilities : Responsible for all fundraising efforts in Mexico and the United States. Responsible for sourcing, applying for, and securing grants at the current stage of the organization and as we grow. Recruit talented people to the team who are creative in problem-solving and driving growth. Activate and execute development plans, support materials, fundraising events, and donor campaigns in collaboration with Marketing and the entire Sanctuary team. Plan, coordinate, and oversee all fund growth activities. Create innovative ways to effectively engage donor audiences. Direct solicitations of philanthropic contributions for all aspects of Sanctuary Hostel’s work. Nurture relationships with donors, and research and expand our network. Track and educate the internal team regularly on development work and progress made. Qualifications/Skills Bachelor's degree OR 3-5 years of experience in related field and workstream, with at least 1 year in a leadership or management role Proven skills in sourcing, networking, and outreach (or willing to put in the time and have interest) Ability to work effectively with volunteers and diverse stakeholders Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous needs and make progres Ability to work independently and asynchronously in a remote environment Detail oriented and not afraid to take and provide objective feedback Previous startup and nonprofit experience, especially in building out development functions is highly preferred

New volunteers in this role will take lead on key workstream efforts and ensure a good fit with other board members before being formally nominated for the board. We need a lot of help and therefore we are seeking experienced leaders to donate at least four hours a week for at least 6 months to tackle this ambitious and important work. Must have prior board experience. Currently the founder serves in this position but would like to focus more with work "on the ground" in Mexico. Ensure ongoing financial reporting, nonprofit administration & compliance, fundraising & communications planning and implementation. Ensure effective systems to track and evaluate progress and effectively communicate measured success to the board, funders, and other constituents. Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals. Fundraising & Communications: Collaborate with Development Lead to expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion while simultaneously retiring building debt. Deepen and refine all aspects of communications-from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand. Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities and grow Sanctuary Hostel's presence and impact. Planning & New Business: Build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders at each location. Be an external presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication. Qualifications The Co-Executive Directors will be thoroughly committed to Sanctuary Hostel’s mission and be the keystone driver of growth and success. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Networking and communication skills are highly desirable as well.
