A really positive first experience through VolunteerMatch! There were about ~25 volunteers, and Mark from the Bay Restoration (who oversaw construction of the Culver Rain Garden a few years ago) made sure everyone knew what to do. Tools and gloves were provided, it was just a few hours of pulling out weeds, dead palm branches, and checking the water lines. I would do it again! The same organization also meets at the UCLA Botanical Gardens and Malibu Lagoon.

As their descriptions states, there was some hard work, involved pulling weeds, unwanted plants, trimming, digging up things. The two men who ran this event were awesome. Very humble, explained what we had to do clearly, would reexplain if necessary, and were respectful. I was able to work in the shade so the sun was not an issue. Since I went solo to the event, I ended meeting some really cool folks. There is a range of age and races, so it was nice to see a mix of different people coming together and helping out. At the end, we were able to see the difference we made and those hours of work felt very meaningful. I would recommend to anyone willing to get down and dirty with gardening and I would do this again. A+ experience.
