Mission Statement

Soil Cycle's mission is to promote the natural food cycle by providing environmentally sustainable compost services and education.

Description

Soil Cycle is an environmental nonprofit in Missoula Montana. Soil Cycle strives to rethink the concept of waste, and this is highlighted by their unique approach to organic waste management via bicycle-powered compost collection and community education. Soil Cycle is focused on the health and the longevity of our soil and future food systems. They currently use bicycles to collect food scraps from residential members, which reduces their environmental impact but also inspires the community to think about their organic waste each time they see them on the road. Volunteers help turn that material back into compost that is eventually returned to members and local farms. This cycle encourages members to close the loop and grow their own food. Among many volunteer opportunities, they also offer compost, garden, and herbal medicine workshops, as well as kids educational resources and compost-related field-trips.
