The Old Jail Art Center's overall aim is to serve as an educational and cultural center focused on the visual arts through collections, preservation, exhibitions, interpretation, programs and regional history resources to enhance the education of our audience.

Description

The Old Jail Art Center, founded in 1980, is a nonprofit fine arts museum housing a variety of collections of art, part of which is displayed in a nationally registered 1883 historic jail. Collections include ancient and modern Asian ceramics, pre-Columbian artifacts, modern European and American works, Taos moderns group paintings, contemporary British paintings, post WWII Italian sculpture, contemporary Texas work, and ranching heritage memoribilia. The museum is located in Albany, Texas, a small ranching/oil community in West Texas, pop. 2000.
