The Mission of the Sarnath International Nyingma Institute (SINI) is fourfold: • to sustain the roots of the Dharma; • to advance the study of classical Buddhist languages; • to empower the transmission of the Dharma; • to promote interdisciplinary collaborations. These four pillars, roots, study, transmission, and collaboration, create the possibility of bridging not only the East and West, modern and traditional thought, but also help to create the bridge between contemplation and action, resulting in a path of goodness in the world. Inaugurated in the winter of 2013, and blessed with the planting of a sacred sapling of the original Bodhi Tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, the Institute is the fruit of decades of cultural and religious preservation work carried out by our founder, Tarthang Rinpoche.
The Sarnath International Nyingma Institute (SINI) was founded by Tibetan Lama Tarthang Tulku and is directed by his daughter Tsering Gellek. The Institute’s primary mission is to bridge the wisdom, knowledge, and best practices of the East and the West. Tsering Gellek, and her dynamic team of volunteers, have developed SINI into a platform for serving the greater good of Buddhism in the East and West.
SINI Bridge is an International Institute with headquarters in Sarnath, India and Cazadero, California. Volunteers work remotely at this time in a highly collaborative team environment, developing and supporting programs such as:
