Medical Minds Matter is a newly formed volunteer-led nonprofit that was founded by a group of aspiring medical professionals with the aim of dismantling mental health stigma in healthcare. We aspire to create a nationwide network of mental health chapters for current and aspiring medical professionals to be able to facilitate peer support, promote mental health literacy, and spur grassroots advocacy efforts within their own community.

MMM was created in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, when mainstream media put a spotlight on burnout and suicide in the healthcare workforce. However, mental health issues are not new in the field, and has always disproportionally affected medical professionals. Even before the pandemic, 44% of physicians were burnt out and physicians face over double the rate of suicide compared to the general population. To make matters worse, mental health is greatly stigmatized by the field, leaving physicians who struggle with their wellness with nowhere to turn for help. Medical Minds Matter hopes to change this narrative and create avenues for current and future medical professionals to support themselves and their peers.
