About Mast Cell Action Mast Cell Action provides support for people living with MCAS, unites the MCAS community and creates a cohesive voice; to lobby for awareness, universally available diagnosis and the best possible care for those affected. Mast Cell Action currently has 4 trustees plus a small but dedicated support team and our Director who will work closely with the successful candidate to strengthen our communications function. Role Overview The Medical Lead Statistician will play a pivotal role in advancing Mast Cell Action's research initiatives. This volunteer position involves designing and analysing clinical studies, interpreting data, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance our understanding of MCAS. Key Responsibilities Study Design and Methodology: Collaborate with researchers to design robust clinical studies. Develop and refine statistical methodologies to address research questions. Ensure studies are designed with appropriate sample sizes and statistical power. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyse clinical and experimental data using advanced statistical techniques. Interpret results in the context of MCAS research and present findings to stakeholders. Provide statistical expertise in the preparation of research manuscripts and grant proposals. Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with medical researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders. Offer statistical consultations to support various research projects within the Charity. Participate in regular meetings with the Medical Engagement team to discuss ongoing projects and findings. Ethics and Compliance: Ensure all research activities comply with ethical standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive research data. Qualifications and Skills Education: Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field. Experience: Extensive experience in statistical analysis within medical research. Proven track record of designing and analysing clinical studies. Experience with statistical software Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly. Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and ethical considerations in medical research. Attributes: Highly organised and detail-oriented. Strong collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively in a team. Main purpose of job: To host virtual events as part of Mast Cell Actions community support services. Key tasks include: · Host virtual events including a variety of different sessions and community support spaces with professionalism and enthusiasm. · Introduce speakers, moderate Q&A sessions, and facilitate audience interaction to keep participants engaged. · Manage technical aspects of virtual events, to ensure smooth execution. · Send pre and post event emails using our event platform, TicketTailor · Collate feedback and add to our quote bank · Raise safeguarding concerns using internal processes and procedures · Maintain confidentiality and follow charity policies and procedures · Undertake relevant training Key Objectives Include: · Host virtual events in a manner that captivates and engages the audience, keeping them interested and actively participating throughout the event. · Reassure and validate participants' experiences whilst encouraging story-sharing. · Manage the technical aspects of virtual events proficiently. · Represent Mast Cell Action professionally at all times, demonstrating strong communication skills, reliability, and adaptability in a virtual environment. Experience/skills required: · Proven experience as a virtual event host, moderator, or similar role · Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt your hosting style to different event formats and audiences. · Patience, empathy and compassion. Openness to support people from all backgrounds. · Proficiency in virtual event platforms such as Zoom, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote team, demonstrating reliability, flexibility, and professionalism at all times.
