Provide a Much Needed Break for Hospice Caregivers - Respite Care Family members and friends of our hospice patients provide 24/7 care for their loved one at home. Would you like to help by providing 2-4 hours of your time so the caregiver can run errands for grocery shopping or attend to their appointments? Sometimes they just need several hours a week to have quiet time, to attend to their own needs in order to rejuvenate and continue the important tasks of providing love and support to the patient. Spanish or any foreign languages Some of our hospice patients need volunteers who they can share and connect with in their native language. As a Bridge Hospice Volunteer, you can make a difference in the life of someone who needs your gift of speech to communicate their needs. Spending time with our patients once or twice a week, sharing stories and providing a warm friendly visit can make all the difference in his/her life. It's a wonderful way to honor those in need of companionship and a way to give back to your community. At Bridge Hospice there are as many special projects as there are unique volunteers. We always have a need for crafters to make lap robes, shawls, blankets, pillowcases, small pillows, afghans, or small decorative items for patients' rooms. . . all of which can be lovingly supplied from the hands of our wonderful craft volunteers. Ideas of Items to Make for Patients: Small wreath for door or bedside Door hanger Greeting cards Booklets of pictures (animals, places of travel, or scenery) Eye catching small items to hang in patients’ rooms Small flower arrangements Crafty Holiday projects Sewing or Kitting Projects: Bone Pillows (neck pillow) Walker bag Lap quilt or blanket Fidget blanket Hospital gowns Occasionally, a family will ask for something to be made from an item (i.e. a shirt) that once belonged to their loved one. We call the items "Memory Bears" or "Memory Pillows", etc. We would love to hear your ideas as well! Items may be made at home and delivered to our office or a staff member will be happy to pick up. Time Commitment is very flexible and based on your availability. We have patients located in Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties.
