The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides free and unbiased Medicare counseling and advocacy for seniors of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Medicare is a complex topic that affects all seniors living in our communities. HICAP trains individuals on how Medicare works through online training, in person meetings, counselor observations and more. -Individuals tackle the training at their own pace. The rewards are tremendous. -Seniors are so appreciative when someone can take a complex topic like Medicare and simplify it for how it can best work for themselves. The side benefit for the counselor is the exercise for the brain that is accomplished when learning a new topic like Medicare, and then learning how to explain it to others. HICAP clients include seniors from every walk of life.
