We match each volunteer with a foster child in our community to build a one-on-one relationship. You do not need any special skills in order to help change the lives of these children! Many of these kids live in group homes with 9 other children and just want to the chance to build a bond with someone while they enjoy some time away from their home. Become a friend and a role model. You can choose to go to the playground, visit the zoo, play a game of basketball, talk about life, or whatever you can assist with. The days and times are flexible. Give them the friendship that they deserve!

You can make a difference for a child in foster care. Just a few hours a month can change a life. Children in care who have at least one stable adult in their lives, are less likely to use illegal drugs or drop out of school. Mentors help children build social and academic skills, as well as increase their confidence. "Jane" is a sweet and smart 14 year old girl waiting for a mentor. She loves to play tennis and also enjoys things like drawing, painting, writing, and reading. She couldn’t think of any activities she dislikes and says she enjoys pretty much everything. Jane would like a mentor so she can get away and have someone to help her forget about some of the bad things in her life. She’d like to make more good memories. Jane would like her mentor to know that she really likes to write. (Real name not used) You do not need any special skills to make a difference. Most children just need a consistent person in their lives. Arizonans for Children trains volunteers from our community to support the needs of children in care. We match each volunteer with a foster child in the community to build a one-on-one relationship. Mentors pick up the child from their placement and take them out for a few hours. You can do pretty much anything - most of the kiddos are just desperate to get out of the house! Mentors spend at least 8 hours a month with the child. Some mentors will do a couple hours each week, some do longer visits every other week. The scheduling is very flexible and completely up to you and the child! The relationship is for a minimum of 1 year and this is to help the child have a consistent and stable role model in their life. This opportunity is available throughout Maricopa County.
