Mission Statement

VOCFINU promotes healthy development of children, youth and families in Gulu, Northern Uganda by providing professional counseling, vocational education, and support services.

Description

Living in Uganda can be incredibly difficult. As of 2017, 21.7% of the population was living below the poverty line, and as of 2013, 24.6% of the population survived on $1.90 or less a day. As one of many responses to poverty, mothers will sell their daughters in the hope of providing their daughters better lives, but there is no guarantee. It is difficult for families to provide their children sustenance, let alone a quality education.

That's where we come in. Voices of Children's Faith in Northern Uganda (VOCFINU) advocate for economic, cultural, and social development for children in Uganda. We are empowering and transforming children's lives through education.

Right now we're working on building a vocational teaching center where women, youth, and children can feel supported and get an education that will empower and equip them to become physically and financially independent. One of our starting projects is to teach culinary and baking skills in an accessible kitchen we'll build ourselves.
