Virtual Opportunity
Attachment & Trauma Network, Inc. (ATN) is a leading national nonprofit dedicated to promoting healing of early childhood trauma through families, schools and communities. ATN is currently in our 30th year of supporting adults - primarily parents and educators and a growing group of community leaders/advocates - in learning about trauma and how to build resilience in children. We envision a world in which trauma-informed, relationship-focused interactions are the norm and are used by parents, schools and communities worldwide. Attachment & Trauma Network is seeking members, preferably with board experience, to join the Board of Directors. An overview of duties and responsibilities: Provide governance through oversight of ATN’s finances and management through attention to financial and management reports, active participation in governance-related committees, and briefings by staff. Attend monthly board meetings, virtually. Meetings are held via Zoom for approximately 1 hour each month at a time set by when the majority of the board members can attend. Board members are expected to attend at least 75% of the monthly meetings (9 out of 12). Participate in outreach and fundraising activities by: (1) making an annual and/or recurring gift as dictated by your circumstances AND (2) participating in soliciting funds by various means (i.e., mini-fundraisers, Facebook/social media campaigns, securing donors, and other personal and corporate "asks"). The expectation is that contributions given to ATN are expected to be one of the top three contributions given by that board member annually, regardless of the amount. Attend ATN’s board orientation and annual retreat. The annual retreat is a multi-day event and the only time when the board of directors is together in-person conducting board business. Each Board member must actively participate either on two committees OR as a board officer and on one committee. Current Board-led standing committees are: Finance, Fundraising, Board Development and Special Issues. Board members are also frequently involved in Task Force work that involves working with staff and volunteers on programs, such as our annual Creating Trauma-Sensitive Schools Conference. Attend and volunteer for an active role in the execution of our annual Creating Trauma-Sensitive Schools Conference held annually in February. Be responsible for keeping informed of ATN’s goals, objectives and programs and events, and talk about them regularly to your sphere of influence. Act as a spokesperson for ATN via speaking, writing and representing ATN as requested. Include ATN board membership on your biography and resume, when appropriate. Connect ATN with people of influence who you know. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information provided to you in your capacity as a board member. Take initiative and provide leadership as needed. Promptly respond to all communication from ATN board members, staff and committees. Declare any conflicts of interest no less than annually. Recuse yourself from discussions and voting when there is a conflict and ask the minutes to so state. Bring the whole of your expertise, capabilities and sphere of influence to bear for ATN and its efforts to achieve its mission. Previous Nonprofit Board Experience or Volunteer Leadership is Preferred. ATN is currently seeking board members with the following occupations/skills and perspectives: Finance (nonprofit preferred) Philanthropy/Fundraising/Special Events HR/Volunteer Management Legal, especially nonprofit or event management PR and Communications Various ages, especially those under 50 All cultures, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations The biggest commonality: a personal connection to and/or interest in helping to heal and prevent childhood trauma and a passion for the mission.
