Mission Statement

The goal of the Cheer Fund is to bring the joy of Christmas to needy children and their families in Greensburg and Decatur County Indiana.

The Daily News Cheer Fund was started in 1911 by publisher James Caskey and has delivered toys and food to children and their families with the exception of a couple of years during WW2 and in 2020 when we held a drive through event due to the pandemic. In the past we would pack toys and food items and the children also received clothing vouchers with many volunteers delivering the items on Christmas Eve morning. In 2020 everyone came through as a food drive receiving milk, bread, cereal, pbj, eggs and a gift card for toys and clothing. We raised over $85000 in 8 weeks and it went to 326 families.

The Cheer Fund is completely underwritten by the staff of the Daily News and volunteers - all funds raised go directly back to families in need within the community.
