Mission Statement

Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. provides essential services to victims and survivors of sexual violence, and to educate and engage the community in the awareness and prevention of sexual assault in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.

Description

Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. (formerly People Against Rape) was founded in 1974. In September 1975, we officially opened our doors as one of the first rape crisis centers in South Carolina.

Through the years, Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. has remained a consistent resource for the community and continued to evaluate services to continue to meet the needs of survivors.

We offer free confidential services to adult survivors of sexual assault in Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties of South Carolina. Our services include a 24-hour hotline, hospital accompaniment during Sexual Assault Forensic Exams (SAFE), police and law enforcement accompaniment, court accompaniment, follow-up services, as well as support groups. To learn more about any of our direct services, call our hotline 24/7 at 843-745-0144.

We are also currently expanding our education and prevention programs to teach sexual assault prevention in high schools, colleges, medical facilities, faith communities, and other locations. To learn more about educational trainings and prevention programs, visit our Prevention and Education resources.
