Mission Statement

Community Cooperative Nursery School (CCNS) is a non-profit preschool in Salt Lake City which was establish in 1962. CCNS is a pioneer in play-based methodology in SLC. Play-based entails following & encouraging a child's natural curiosity. Within our curriculum we stress an appreciation for the outdoors, our public spaces and the importance of becoming good stewards of our natural resources. CCNS introduces children, often for the first-time, to the concept of sustainability through themes like our watershed, recycling and green energy. Through experience-based learning, children are encouraged to question and experiment. We are proud that Kindergarten teachers in the area can often spot one of our students from their social and critical thinking skills.

While in normal years we operate from our sunny classrooms that we lease from the Unitarian Church, the global pandemic has taken us fully outdoors where kids explore trail heads all around the city and nearby mountains. We are looking for a couple interns interested in early education and/or child development/psychology -- to assist our teachers on T/TH am 9-11:30am. We also have a need this Summer. We are happy to do reviews/hour s for school credit or paid internships. We want to make sure it is a great experience for all involved.
