Description
Hospice is a form of compassionate and quality care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury. Rather than trying to cure a terminal illness, the goal of hospice is to make the patient comfortable, ease pain and other troublesome symptoms and support the family through this challenging time. Hospice volunteers make a valuable difference in the quality of a person's life as it nears its end. Volunteers provide emotional support and practical assistance that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients, their families and loved ones. As a hospice volunteer, you may be asked to: listen and support the patient and family, read or sit with the patient for short periods of time, honor and support our veteran patients, prepare a light meal, write letters, run errands, help with office tasks, or support community events like educational offering or health fairs. Hospice was developed in response to a community's needs, and it is necessary for members of the community to share in and contribute to its well-being. For the safety of our patients and employees, all volunteers are required to complete drug tests and background checks. Training is provided as part of your volunteer experience.
