Mission Statement

The San Mateo-Foster City Education Foundation (SMFCEdFund) believes every child deserves the best education possible. The Foundation is committed to reaching every child in the San Mateo-Foster City School District (SMFCSD) and closing the gap by funding a wide variety of educational opportunities to help our diverse community of students achieve their full potential. A strong Education Foundation does more than just support the children in its care, it impacts the entire community. We are committed to reaching out to our greater community, raising awareness of the value of supporting local schools to those outside of our immediate parent base.

Description

The San Mateo-Foster City Education Foundation (SMFCEdFund) was founded in 1989 in response to the growing disparity in equity and opportunity within our San Mateo-Foster City School District (SMFCSD). It has been clearly established that better funded schools give more students pathways to success. Understanding that the schools in our district were not being equally financially supported, the SMFCEdFund’s goal was to secure funding so all the district schools had the money needed to create equal opportunity for students, regardless of where the school was located. Since then, the SMFCEdFund has continued its mission to identify unmet needs within the district and close the disparity so all the schools in our district excel, as a district. Together with grantors and our generous community, the SMFCEdFund has granted more than $4.3 million to the SMFCSD to support district-wide programs such as music, art, literacy, STEAM education, and after-school athletics.

Project Inspiration is our 3 year, $5,000,000 initiative that sets the stage for advancing academic leadership, health and safety, and STEAM (Arts) education. It is a bold initiative but we know there is strength in numbers. We are focused on bringing 25 partners into a collaborative venture addressing equity and opportunity in our district and our pilot program is fully funded with a $500,000 grant. Join us as we make a difference in the community for our children.
