Environmental stewardship and community resilience by creating a sustainable lifecycle for the built environment.
Description
The organization utilizes five critical pillars to guide and achieve its mission: its Material Reuse Center, which helps homeowners, contractors, small business owners, and others find reclaimed building materials for 50 to 85 percent less than new material costs; Deconstruction and Pickup Services, where LBC’s staff dismantles or collects materials to be redistributed through the Material Reuse Center; Educational Classes, which are offered at no cost and empower community members to be more resourceful, resilient, and sustainable; Nonprofit Material MATCH, a program that has provided over 200 building material grants to nonprofits, schools, and houses of faith, enabling these groups to lower their construction costs; and Workforce Development, a partnership with Georgia Works!, an organization that provides full-time employment and housing placement for men who are transitioning back into the workforce, with more than 6,000 hours of valuable job training provided to 55 individuals since 2016 and 5 program graduates being hired as full-time employees at LBC.
