Mission Statement

Our trained Community Emergency Response Team are all incredible volunteers and wear many hats. They play a vital role in supporting our community in all kinds of emergencies, saving lives and ready to respond to medical emergencies, fires and major disasters. We are recognized by FEMA and by CAL Office of Emergency Services. We are chartered by the Cloverdale and Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection Districts. Our role is to support the community during emergencies and disasters before first responders arrive and to support our first responders in their response.

CERT trained personnel in each neighborhood can provide immediate assistance such as search and rescue, first aid, small fire suppression, etc. while awaiting the arrival of first responders. They also provide a force multiplier effect during major incidents by providing services such as:

  • Assisting with first aid and shelter management at Temporary Refuge Areas and evacuation centers
  • In-person wellness checks during pandemics
  • Search and rescue neighborhood screening
  • Minor fire suppression
  • Emergency radio communications
  • Evacuation traffic direction
  • Firefighter rehabilitation (under the direction of an EMT)
  • Wildfire vegetation management public awareness programs
  • Replacing fire alarm batteries
  • Putting up fire service compliant street address signs
  • Geo-mapping parcels for fire run maps
  • Emergency notification enrollment of citizens
  • Pet and farm animal rescue
  • Distribution of site-specific evacuation directions and maps
  • Earthquake light search and rescue
  • Emergency triage to assist overburdened first responders
