Using outdoor adventure sports like paddling, orienteering, camping, cycling, and rock climbing, Chicago Adventure Therapy (CAT) works with Chicago youth to have a lasting positive impact on their communities and become healthy adults by teaching effective social skills and strong leadership skills, increasing participants’ sense of possibility, and fostering a sense of empowerment and personal responsibility.
Chicago Adventure Therapy (CAT) was founded in 2006 and started programming in 2007. Since then the organization has worked with close to 2,000 Chicago youth. We partner with other youth-serving organizations to offer programming, and offer continued programming throughout the year to any participants who want to stay involved in outdoor sports. CAT youth earned skills and coach certifications, and completed expeditions, and taught across the Midwest and in New York, Florida, the San Juan Islands, Baja California and Scotland. Two different CAT participants have at some point been the youngest paddlesports coach in North America.
