Mission Statement

Transplant Unwrapped's mission is to educate and support those with intestinal dysfunction as well as patients and caregivers going through the intestinal rehabilitation or intestinal and multivisceral transplantation journey.

Description

The organization was founded by Kayla Pfab, a two-time intestinal transplant recipient, who felt there was a lack of quality educational materials and support resources for individuals going through this challenging medical endeavor. Transplant Unwrapped offers a website with numerous educational resources and support programs related to various intestinal topics. Each month, the organization selects a new "Topic of the Month," for which Transplant Unwrapped creates new educational materials, hosts an expert-led webinar, and holds virtual support group sessions. Other patient and caregiver support programs include a one-on-one peer support system via their Ambassador program, a moderated patient and caregiver Facebook Support Group, and a question-and-answer resource through the "Ask the Expert" initiative. The site offers numerous patient and caregiver stories and video interviews of clinicians in the field. Launching early 2021, Transplant Unwrapped will bring a new resource to the pediatric population in the form of a separate kid’s website. This site contains many kid-friendly educational materials on short bowel, intestinal rehabilitation, and intestinal transplantation. The kid’s site provides content through animations, activity book downloads, online activities, a kid’s glossary, and a parent resource center. Transplant Unwrapped is excited to serve the rare disease community with its resources and support programs.
