The #1 goal of Humane Action Pittsburgh (HAP) is to educate the public on how to prevent and relieve animal suffering by taking meaningful action. The HAP Website Developer will maintain our website(s) to make sure we are providing resources, and accurate, up-to-date information regarding the organization, our campaigns, and relevant issues. Purpose of the Position Increase visibility and impact of HAP with our web presence Maintain and manage humaneactionpittsburgh.org and all associated webpages Duties and Responsibilities Develop web pages and designs that are appealing and functional Perform regular quality checks to ensure website is functioning properly Make edits to website as directed by HAP leadership Make sure all HAP materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding Add blogs, podcast episodes, new events, and other regular posts (content to be provided) Maintain subscriptions with hosting site and other relevant third parties Work with volunteers and staff in other departments to manage subscriptions and other overlapping responsibilities as needed Grow awareness of HAP with the general public Respond to HAP leadership emails and calls within 48 hours Training Requirements Training on HAP’s core values, mission, and policies, including orientation on various campaign missions and statuses. Training on website (prior web management experience required). Skills and Qualifications Excellent written and digital communication skills Able to work within HAP leadership as a team member WordPress Creativity to produce exciting and interesting designs Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects The technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms and also create web and mobile content Self-motivated Ability to present yourself in a friendly, professional, and nonpartisan manner Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet deadlines Working knowledge of Google Drive Time Commitment Required 3 - 4 hours a week. This may vary. Monthly one-hour, virtual website team meetings Monthly one-hour, virtual leadership meetings Dress Code Professional dress required for professional meetings (if any). If attending an informal event on behalf of HAP, we ask the volunteer to purchase a HAP T-shirt for $7. Location Since the pandemic, most HAP meetings take place via Zoom. However, occasional in person meetings may be required. Virtual Opportunity
Humane Action Pittsburgh is expanding throughout Pennsylvania and we are looking for residents throughout PA to act as a district liaison. Duties include: -Submitting letters to the editor and op-eds -Meeting with legislators -Attending monthly meetings with HAP leadership (virtual) -Attending other meetings as needed -Light research -Collaborating with local stakeholders to support animal and environmental legislation -Other duties, as needed Volunteers can expect to spend 2 - 5 hours per week volunteering. Position Overview Serve as the main copywriter and editor of the Humane Action Pittsburgh monthly newsletter. Purpose of the Position Promote HAP’s campaigns to our mailing list Help HAP achieve our mission of advancing the protection of all animals by empowering people to affect change through education, policy, and community action. Duties and Responsibilities Collecting information on and writing HAP related stories and updates Liaise with the staff, volunteers, online sources, and, potentially, members of the public to source articles/pictures Ensure that the newsletter covers all relevant information and that everyone submits information on time Promotes a positive and professional image of HAP Obtainrelevant permissions for articles and photos Confirm content complies with HAP policies and guidelines Distribute the newsletter to the appropriate audiences whether it be the drafts for review or the final product, and by the assigned deadlines Training Requirements Training on HAP’s core values, policies, and mission, including orientation of relevant projects. Training on the CRM that the newsletter is produced through. Training on Trello online system for storing information. Skills and Qualifications Excellent written communications skills Highly-organized and detail-oriented Comfort with performing research through online resources Comfort contacting other individuals and organizations Self-motivated Ability to present yourself in a friendly, professional, and non-partisan manner Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet deadlines Working knowledge of Google Drive, or a willingness to learn Time Commitment Required Approximately 2 - 3 hours per week, but may be slightly more when newsletter launch is imminent Monthly one-hour, virtual leadership meetings Other meetings as needed Location Since the pandemic, most HAP meetings take place via Zoom. The HAP Director of Humane Education (DHE) will focus on reaching young people in high school and university classrooms as a Humane Educator. Our audience ranges in size from small groups to school-wide assemblies. Purpose of the Position Develop relationships with schools and universities Inspire the next generation to appreciate and protect animals Demonstrate why personal responsibility is required from all of us to end speciesism Duties and Responsibilities Grow a team of HAP Humane Educators Facilitate and create speaking opportunities with local institutions Reach every high school and university in Pittsburgh area Assist with recruiting, instructing, and assessing members of the HAP Youth Steering Committee Provide an overview of expectations to teachers or leaders in advance of the presentation Respect school security policies Develop and present curriculum related to animal and environmental welfare Ability to present yourself in a friendly, professional and non-partisan manner Be timely, arrive early, allow for Q&A, and end on time Provide your own transportation Obtain honorarium for HAP when appropriate and provide tax forms to the institution Respond to HAP leadership emails and calls within 48 hours Be prepared and on-time for meetings and events Share and support HAP’s mission and core values; adhere to HAP’s policies Other duties as needed Skills and Qualifications Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal Ability to do independent research Basic computer literacy Availability during school hours Ability to operate technology associated with presentations Ability to energize and motivate students and volunteer team Self-motivated Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet deadlines Working knowledge of Google Drive and Trello, or a willingness to learn Clearances Volunteer will be required to get all necessary clearances; HAP will cover the cost. Volunteer Position Description: Videographer Position Overview Humane Action Pittsburgh has a need for a passionate and talented videographer to volunteer their skills to record events for campaigns, marketing, and our website. Purpose of the Position Allow HAP to put its best foot forward visually Educate HAP members on local, state, and federal issues pertaining to animal and environmental welfare Document important events and other special occasions Duties and Responsibilities Attend and capture all HAP major events (around 10 per year) and some smaller meetings and get togethers Provide digital files of recordings to HAP staff in a timely manner Create useable, edited film clips from raw footage Give feedback on ways we could utilize videography to further our mission Record people, places, merchandise, and other things as needed for specific campaign materials Training Requirements HAP staff will provide the training necessary for this position. Training will be done over Zoom and will take no more than 1 hour Skills and Qualifications Videography experience and equipment Editing skills and software Excellent communication skills The ability work independently Basic computer literacy Able to work in in a friendly, professional and non-partisan manner Self-motivated Ability to meet deadlines ***If you have Photographer skills we are also looking for a person for that role.
