Mission Statement

At the Houston Astronomical Society, our mission is to foster the art and science of astronomy with our members and the community.

Description

At over 700 members, the Houston Astronomical Society is one of the largest astronomy clubs in the United States. Our programs serve both our members and the public at large, making astronomy more accessible to the average person. Many members have joined barely knowing anything about astronomy, and some have grown to contribute many meaningful discoveries to the scientific community.

Our outreach programs are very popular with the public, and can attract over 1,000 people at an event to look through our telescopes. As an entirely volunteer-run organization, though, we are dependent on the time and talents of all of our volunteers to help others get a better understanding and appreciation of our universe.
