Oakland Art Murmur (OAM) is an Oakland-based non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization with the mission to support and promote visual artists and arts venues, and connect the public to the vibrant and eclectic art of the East Bay. Since its inception in 2006, (OAM) has evolved from a grassroots coalition of eight arts spaces to a dynamic force shaping the cultural identity of Oakland. Initially founded to promote the visual arts in the city, OAM's flagship event, the First Friday Art Walk, has grown to encompass over fifty venues and has become a monthly celebration drawing up to 20,000 participants alongside its offshoot, the Oakland First Fridays street fair. In 2012, OAM and Oakland First Fridays formalized into separate entities, with OAM expanding its influence across the city.

Beyond the renowned First Friday Art Walk, OAM is dedicated to amplifying the East Bay's visual artists and arts workers, emphasizing diversity, equity, and community activism. The organization has engaged millions through inclusive community events, bringing art beyond traditional galleries to local businesses and community centers. As threats to artists and art spaces loom amid the city's growth, OAM has intensified its support through initiatives like the East Bay Open Studios program, monthly art walks, and artist talks. Using an equity lens, OAM provides resources to artists, offering exhibition spaces, scholarships, marketing support, and professional development. Through its commitment to inclusivity, OAM continues to connect artists, venues, and audiences, ensuring the ongoing vibrancy of Oakland's visual arts community.
