Mission Statement
The Good Samaritan House is one of only two homeless shelters operating in Madison County, IL, and the only shelter that allows children. We provide residents with: A warm, safe place to stay for 90 days Three meals and two snacks daily Assistance to keep or reenroll their children in school Access to life skills such as healthy meal planning and job interview coaching Assistance applying for programs like WIC and SNAP An empathetic, Christian environment free of judgement, yet full of support
Description
House Volunteer / Friendly Visitor
A House Volunteer / Friendly Visitor is a position that offers a wide variety of opportunities to serve the residents of the Shelter. There are opportunities to interact with both adult women and / or children.
Clerical Support / Client Services Associate
We rely on these volunteers to perform basic clerical tasks in support of the staff members of the shelter. Any and all actions will be directed and supervised by staff members. Confidentiality and respect for all residents / staff / equipment / infrastructure is of the utmost importance.
Fundraising / Events / Donations Coordinator
Without the support from our community, both monetary and non-monetary, the Good Samaritan House could not exist. We welcome every idea and opportunity to advance our mission through fundraising support, awareness, and donations that benefit the Shelter. We can benefit from having volunteers that are willing to help with coordination.
Life Skills Instructor / Educator / Kids’ Programming
We cannot emphasize enough how important the intentional development of the residents is to their ability to make a successful transition out of the Shelter. Any opportunity we have to bring healthy and positive attitudes/ ideas is a treasure with multiplying benefits. This role has many focus areas.
