The mission of the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library is to increase awareness of, raise funds for, and actively assist the Thousand Oaks Library and its branch (s) to promote learning, literacy, and cultural knowledge via materials, programs, and services made available to the community.
The non-profit organization was first organized in 1961 and has always worked to to support the Thousand Oaks Library (City of Thousand Oaks, California) by raising funds to support it. Currently the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library have a goal to fund raise $$165,000 for the Library. The Library uses the funds to purchase e-learning and e-resources for the community to use online, books, programs, and services such as maintaining the 3500 gallon salt-water aquarium inside the Library. The Friends hold booksales using books donated from the community, provide community outreach activities to youth organizations, hold events to build awareness of the Library, and use other fundraising tactics to support the Library.
