Mission Statement

VISION AND VALUES We believe that everyone has a right to a home. Homelessness in the U.S. has become a community problem that requires a community solution. The quality of life and well-being of the whole community is raised by working in partnership to end the condition of homelessness. MISSION The primary objective and purpose of this organization is to help house the homeless in Sonoma County, California. SAVS aims to create villages where formerly unsheltered residents live with dignity and hope. The residents participate in the management of their village and, in partnership with the larger community, pursue goals for empowerment and improved mental and physical health.

Description

We are a new organization with a strong experienced team. Like in many other places, homeless people in our county spend years on waiting lists until a space opens up in an apartment they can afford. In the meantime, their physical and mental health deteriorates. Some die.

We intend to bridge that gap with mini bedrooms and a communal living space. We plan to give people at least the human basics -- safety, freedom from police harassment, a lock on their door and a place to use the bathroom. Projects like ours have been successful in other places and we want to build community awareness that losing a home does not mean you must sleep under a bush or in a crowded dormitory.

We currently feed 100-200 homeless people a day as we search for property where we can set up our first village.
