Today's Harvest relies on the hard work of volunteers like you to serve families in need, so this role is perfect for anyone looking for a physically active and fun way to help their community! Today’s Harvest is a new way for people to access fresh, healthy food. A different type of food access model, it works to increase food access while also reducing food waste in the community. The food people choose from will change every day based on our food rescue. The market is a quick and easy way for people to stretch their food budget. Every visit, they will get a 1 to 2 day supply of fresh produce, bread, meat and other foods. People are welcome to visit the market as often as they need it. Today’s Harvest is open six days a week. There is a lot to do every day, and we wouldn't be able to do it without our incredible volunteers. Responsibilities Market Shopping Assistant Greet customers as they enter the market and explain how the market works to first time customers. Monitor customers to make sure they’re taking proper amounts of items according to signage. Help answer questions and assist with the checkout/weighing process and iPad. Use sanitizing wipes on cart handles between customers as flow allows. Merchandise coolers, bakery rack(s), and produce tables during slow times. Restock as customer flow allows or ask other volunteers/staff to restock areas that are low. Other duties as assigned Market Restocking Restock the coolers, freezer, bakery rack(s) and produce table throughout the day as needed. The need for nourishing food is still growing, and so is our need for volunteers. We now serve over 4,000 households per week, and the number of families in need is still climbing every week. To meet the ever-increasing need in the community, we are in need of more volunteers! We are serving more families than ever, and we need YOUR help to keep going! There is a lot to do every day, and we wouldn't be able to keep up without our incredible volunteers. Pack & Sort Generalist Responsibilities Organize and sort fresh produce, deli, meat, frozen food, and dairy products Packaging food for drive up food distribution service Help unload food from delivery and food rescue trucks Stock and organize shelves Warehouse cleanup including breaking down boxes, taking out garbage and recycling, cleaning Other duties as assigned Requirements Volunteers must be age 15 or older Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 30 pounds Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes, and should dress appropriately for the weather Schedule Mondays: 8:30 am - 11:00 am Wednesdays: 8:30 am - 11:15 am, 10:45 am - 1:45 pm Thursdays: 9:00 am - 11:45 am, 11:30 am - 2:00 pm Fridays: 8:30 am - 11:00 am To get started, complete our volunteer application form, or contact us at volunteer@opencupboard.org or (651) 413-2685.
