Mission Statement

HackGuild aims to increase access to tech education by mentoring, empowering, and equipping students to host their own educational events such as workshops, hackathons, and panels. We especially focus on low-income communities and underrepresented minorities.

Description

Our team has been together since March 2019 and since then, we have grown to a core team of over 20 college and high school students working together to further our cause. We hope to bring a comprehensive computer science education to communities that usually do not have access to it.
We currently have two main initiatives: event organizing and promoting awareness. For the former, we have dedicated one-on-one mentors who teach students the technical and leadership skills necessary to host their own technology education events. For the latter, we use social media and accessible & approachable language to educate youths about computer science and computer science careers.
So far we have hosted one virtual hackathon and various online workshops on topics such as React.js web development and Git version control. We have reached hundreds of students with these events, and we'll extend that reach as we move forward.
