The Community of Volunteer Educators (COVE) is a public service organization that aims to expand access to equitable learning opportunities. We provide free, virtual educational enrichment programming to advance issues of economic, racial, and social justice within our communities.
In March 2020, an initiative was created to match student volunteers from the Columbia network with healthcare worker families from Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This volunteer-driven program, formerly known as Volunteer Tutor Corps offered remote online instruction in traditional K-12 subjects by matching students with tutors in their requested topic areas.
After rebranding in July, the organization has expanded beyond Columbia University and is now called the Community of Volunteer Educators (COVE). We currently provide virtual tutoring services and educational enrichment programming to communities-in-need across New York City. Our vision is to support communities by developing innovative academic programming to reduce educational inequities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
