Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County focuses on cats that are not "owned" and have little to no chance of being spayed, neutered, or receiving medical attention. These cats are our county's most vulnerable; they are the most likely to be neglected and they are the most likely to be forgotten. Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County is the longest-running Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) organization in the country. Since 1990, we have been the guardians, protectors, and advocates for the unowned cats in our county. We are happy to train volunteers 16 or older who are up to date on their vaccination & booster schedule for covid-19, and are the right fit for the environment. New clinic volunteers always first arrange a shadowing day to begin with. We ask a commitment of at least 6 months to a set & dedicated clinic shift schedule. We hope and strongly encourage our volunteers to stay longer! We greatly depend on our volunteers and the longer we can go with having a dedicated and trained person in the position, the better it is for the cats & humans of FFSC. All Clinic roles are fairly physical and do require walking, standing, bending, lifting & carrying (mostly cats in humane traps or carriers, which can get a bit heavy and is often done repetitively), stooping and generally moving around. Most shifts are 2-4 hours in length. Our clinics happen every Monday, Wednesday and some select Thursdays. We will absolutely discuss in more detail what positions and times are needed. Many volunteers only work 1 or 2 of those Clinic days each week. Clinic volunteers also need to be able to work independently and with little supervision once trained. All clinic roles are fairly phsyical and do require some amount of walking, standing, bending, lifting & carrying (mostly cats in humane traps or carriers, which can get heavy!), stooping and generally moving around. Here are some example of common clinic roles, Patient In-Take, Patient Discharge, Recovery Monitoring, Spay Van Assistance, Neuter Room Assistance, Surgical tool Autoclave, and Equipment Cleaning.
