FOOD: Pack Meal Kits for the Lucky Duck Food & Water Initiative

Help feed hundreds of San Diego's unhoused residents through the Lucky Duck Foundation's Food & Water Initiative. This initiative has distributed more than 2 million meal kits to our unsheltered neighbors since the pandemic began and relies on volunteers like you to keep it going. Volunteers will be working an assembly line in a warehouse packing wrapped food items and bottled water into bags for distribution to unhoused individuals on the streets of San Diego County. All food bagged at the project will be distributed by the Lucky Duck Foundation within the week, feeding those in need. Project Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that is comfortable. Dress in layers as the project is in a warehouse and temperatures do vary. Physical Requirements: You must be able to stand for the duration of the project. Some positions require bending and lifting to restock supplies. The heaviest item would be a case of water. Accessibility: The project site is wheelchair accessible. One position is available for sitting and helping with bags. The Lucky Duck Food and Water Initiative has distributed over 2 million meals to San Diego's unsheltered neighbors since May 2020. Volunteers help pack, sort, and load food and water for homeless outreach teams to distribute throughout San Diego County. Volunteers are critical to making this program happen. Project Requirements & Important Notes Attire: This project is held in a warehouse.. Always check the weather forecast, but know that it does get hot at the distribution site, especially given the physical nature of the work. Closed-toe boots/sneakers that you feel comfortable in while moving items for an hour are a must. Physical Requirements: Able to stand for the duration of the shift and lift trash bags of food that weigh 35 pounds. Avoiding Injury: Poor lifting form will lead to injury and pain. You should only bend with your knees and hips, keep your back straight, and keep your shoulders back. Slowly lift by straightening your hips and knees (not your back). Hold the bag as close to your body as possible. Set the bag down by bending your knees and hips only (it is very easy to get in the habit of setting bags down in cars by bending your back). Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. This opportunity takes place indoors.. Unfortunately the space where this project takes place is not wheelchair accessible. Waiver: Lucky Duck Foundation requires a waiver for minors.
