Mission Statement

The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps is to improve and supplement local healthcare systems during times of emergency or planned events through the sheriff’s department. This is achieved by recruiting and training both volunteer medical and non-medical professionals and organizing them to assist effectively and efficiently in management during times of local or regional emergencies or when called upon by the sheriff’s department.

Description

Nationally the Medical Reserve Corps program was officially formed in 2002 as a community-based movement in response to President’s Bush’s call for all Americans to offer volunteer services to their communities after 911.
* Recognizing the desire of health professionals and others to volunteer in an organized manner to supplement existing emergency response systems, the San Bernardino County Medical Society applied for federal grant funding which was used to establish the San Bernardino County MRC in September, 2003.
* Our primary purpose has been to strengthen communities by establishing local teams of trained medical, public health, and other community volunteers to supplement existing emergency response systems.
* The MRC is a program under Inland Wellness Information Network (IWIN), a 501 C (3)nonprofit organization. Housed in the San Bernardino County Medical Society.
