Hospice volunteers are a vital part of the Hospice care team. As a Hospice volunteer you will provide companionship to the patient, relief for family members and caregivers, administrative support in the office, or a variety of other volunteer duties. We want you to want to be part of our volunteer team so we make every effort to find a volunteer opportunity that best suits your interests in conjunction with the needs of our patients. Hospice volunteers make a true difference in someone's life and in their communities by giving a small portion of their time. Volunteer opportunities are available at Gentiva Hospice to provide friendly visits to patients at home and local healthcare facilities in the greater Bangor area. Volunteers are needed who can: - Play music - Read to patients - Help patients video chat/connect with loved ones who are unable to visit them due to travel, health, etc. - Are veterans interested in supporting veterans on hospice - Are willing to listen and talk, play cards, or watch a favorite TV show *Volunteers do not perform any clinical activities with a patient such as feeding, toileting, bathing or transferring. *Volunteers schedule their own visits - day/time. *Volunteers receive training that fits into any busy schedule. Hospice care is not only for the recipient, it is for loved ones as well. A team of doctors, nurses, social workers, spiritual care coordinators, family and volunteers work together with the goal of improving the quality of life for patients and their families. Hospice volunteers are an essential part of providing support, and the process is mutually rewarding and beneficial for both volunteer and recipient.
