Music Therapy Volunteers: Music Therapy Volunteers are needed! If you play an instrument (flute, harp, violin, piano, sing, etc., etc., etc.) we NEED you! There are opportunities to perform for various Facilities where our Hospice Patients reside, along with many Residents. The OLDER generation LOVES Music & remembers a LOT of the old time songs: 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, & maybe even the 90s!! They remember SIMPLE songs like: Mary had a little lamb, Row, row, row your boat, Patriotic Music, Swing, Jazz, Orchestral, etc. If you would be interested in sharing your Musical talents with our Hospice Patients &/OR Facilities where they reside, please let us know!! Music is some of the BEST communication! Music makes the World go round!

Direct Patient Veteran Volunteers: Direct Patient Veteran Volunteers are needed to SPEND time with our Veteran Hospice Patients. This is a very unique opportunity & ONLY Veterans can relate to Veterans! The Veteran Volunteer would be asked to sit with a Veteran Patient, share "Military stories & experiences", bring Patients various Patriotic Cards/bookmarks/etc., as provided by the Hospice, encourage the Patient to share their feelings, look at photos books/wall photos of Family & Service-related photos, play Patriotic Music for Patients on their phones, hold their hands, read to the Patient, Talk with them, sing with them, encourage engagement, etc. Respite Care: Direct Patient Veteran Volunteers might be asked to Relieve a Caregiver for a few "much-needed" hours (2-3 Hours maximum) while they rest in another room of the home, or do some errands, grocery shop, go to lunch or dinner with Family & Friends, etc. This means the Veteran Volunteer is at home with the Patient "in case of any emergency" & knows how to handle it from prior Training. The Volunteer would negotiate this schedule with the Caregiver.

Direct Patient Care: Direct Patient Care involves a Volunteer working directly with one of our patients and families. Showing up REGULARLY & ON TIME as agreed to is primary! There are MANY different ways you can spend your time while providing Direct Patient Care for Relational, Social, and Emotional support: - Hold the Patient's Hand - Read to the Patient, just hearing your voice will provide comfort, whether they respond directly or not. - Look at Family Photo albums & Wall photos of loved ones & encourage them to tell you "who they are". - Record Patient stories in a notebook, share them with the Family. They will become invaluable for the future. - Encourage the Patient to talk, ask them simple questions like "favorite color", "favorite movie star", "favorite vacation", "favorite food", etc. - Sing simple songs with them: Mary had a little lamb, Row, row, row your boat, the Star Spangled Banner (most older Patients will relate to these simple songs & might sing along). - Color with them when possible. - Play Tic, Tac, Toe with them on a piece of paper. - Be creative! Respite Care: Respite Volunteers provide "much-needed" Relief to the Caregiver, for a maximum of 2-3 Hours, allowing the Caregiver to tend to their own needs while they rest in another room or leave the home to run errands/go to lunch or dinner/etc. The volunteer becomes a companion to the patient, quietly sitting and holding a hand, reading about current events or simply listening are some of the things a respite volunteer can offer to a Caregiver. This can help avoid "Caregiver breakdown". Errands: Unexpected needs arise daily with patient families and members of our Hospice team. Delivering and picking up supplies, Use Your Talents: If you play a Musical Instrument, you could play for a Patient. Other types of Therapies are welcome for our Patients as appropriate & agreed to with the Family: - Massage Therapy - Art Therapy - Hair cuts/Styling - Pet Therapy

Indirect Patient Care: indirect Patient Care involves a Volunteer assisting our Hospice Team in the Care of our patients by helping out of our main office and doing a variety of tasks. Office: Answering phones, data entry, filing, or assisting with relaying messages to our team in the field are just a few of the responsibilities of an office volunteer. They help ensure efficient processing of paperwork and the overall smooth operation of the Hospice office. Special Projects: Office Volunteers can also make & send creative Birthday or Sympathy cards, create gifts for the patient or the bereaved, Networking with other volunteers, attending fairs & assisting the Volunteer Coordinator to help educate the public about our services, assist with a Newsletter or scrapbook are some of the many special projects where Volunteers are needed. We work together to arrange and deliver gift baskets at Christmas & various Holidays. We also deliver flowers donated by a local flower shop twice a month to some of our patients & we need help with this task.
