Mission Statement

San José State University proposes to have 4 half-time and 40 reduced half-time AmeriCorps Civic Action Fellows (C.A. Fellows @ SJSU) who will serve the needs of communities in the City of San José and the broader region known as the Silicon Valley. By the end of the first program year, the C.A. Fellows will teach computer programming to 100 underserved third to sixth grade youth to provide exposure and skills in computer programming, increase knowledge and self-efficacy in computer science, and increase awareness and motivation regarding the application of computer programming to a variety of careers, including high technology, education, and the civic sphere. In addition, the C.A. Fellows will serve as Contact Tracers with the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health to be a part of the solution to the COVID crisis.
