Mission Statement

The mission of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia is to discover, collect, preserve and share the history, cultural heritage, and genealogical legacy of Germanic settlers in the Russian Empire.

Description

Established in 1968, the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) is an international organization dedicated to the history, cultural heritage, and genealogy of Germans from Russia (GRs).

Because they were attracted to the country’s land sites that most resembled the climate and farming conditions they left behind in Russia, GRs soon settled in towns and topographical host sites across the Great Plains and Western United States. Soon, many of these communities had become highly populated with German-Russian families.

With its headquarters in Lincoln, Nebraska, AHSGR is a non-profit organization that boasts an invested membership, a dedicated staff, a museum campus which celebrates the artifacts of our German-Russian ancestors, and the largest collection of German-Russian ancestral documents in the Western Hemisphere.

We rely on members and committed donors to continue our mission to discover, collect, preserve and share the history, cultural heritage and genealogical legacy of German Settlers in the Russian Empire. The search for and preservation of these legacy discoveries is an integral and necessary piece in connecting the generational ties of countless German Russian settled in communities throughout the world.
