Mission Statement
To serve the needs of citizens of the City of Norman through the operation of a certified mediation program as outlined in the Dispute Resolution Act, 12 O.S. 1801, et seq by offering Norman citizens an alternative manner by which to resolve disputes before they reach the stage of general litigation or criminal charges.
Description
Early Settlement - Norman has been an active program since April 1998 and a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution System of the State of Oklahoma since June 14, 1988.
The program is designed to allow the parties involved in conflict to address their disputes and develop resolutions that are practical, workable and mutually satisfactory to the parties in order to promote a more peaceful community. Conflicts include nuisance animal, property disputes, simple assault and battery, trespassing and disturbing the peace.
While the Program primarily focuses on misdemeanor charges that have been referred by the Norman Municipal Court, the program also receives referrals from other City agencies, Norman Board of Realtors and individual citizens
