The mission of Hales Franciscan High School is to provide its all-male student body with a college preparatory education and character building program that develops them into men who embrace academic excellence and community service, embody wisdom and moral values, and become valuable resources to the global community.
Hales Franciscan is the only Catholic high school in Illinois started for African-American males and one of only three such schools opened nationally. Hales Franciscan's innovative educational program views the city as an extension of its school campus and classes as laboratories where course content and skills taught are reinforced through student built solutions to real neighborhood challenges implemented as part of regular community service activities. Hales Franciscan has been recognized by three U.S. Presidents and two U.S. Secretaries of Education. In addition, its model for preparing African-American males onto college and professional success has been replicated by charter and public schools throughout the nation.
