Mission Statement
Berks Sinfonietta was established in 2014 as a group made up of local musicians, dedicated to exploring the vast repertoire of all periods. One of its distinguishing characteristics is an intergenerational approach, where young professionals, advanced students and gifted amateurs come together to learn from one another and to create performances of excellence. We also intend to explore various aspects of performance practice, and to build a new audience for classical music through education and outreach.
Description
Berks Sinfonietta is a nonprofit chamber orchestra established in 2014. We perform 6-8 live concerts annually in various venues in the Reading and Berks County community. In 2019, we served approximately 75 local professional musicians, 75 high school and college-age musicians, and 1,000 audience members. Audiences love hearing new and unfamiliar classical music that they can't hear anywhere else! We perform music from all eras and are dedicated to performing pieces by non-white, living, and female composers on an equal and regular basis. Led by Artistic Director Dr. David McConnell, Berks Sinfonietta performs at a high level of artistry and musical excellence.
