Mission Statement

Many students in the Shelton Public Schools benefit from their mentors - caring men and women throughout the Greater Shelton area who volunteer their time to spend one hour each week during the school day at schools throughout the city. These dedicated individuals are the heart and soul of the Shelton Public Schools Mentoring Program, and serve as positive role models for their Mentees.

Description

Mentors are paired with students in grades kindergarten through 12. The objective is to be a consistent, caring adult in the life of the child for an hour each week. As this is a school-based program, mentor/mentee pairs typically meet at lunchtime and eat, play games and work on schoolwork or projects. Background checks are done for new mentors, and there is a 2 hour training session to help them get started.
