Description

Located near the Daly City BART station, Woodrow Wilson Elementary is a public school serving 376 students (Kindergarten - 5th grade). Designed as a community oriented school, Woodrow Wilson has served generations of families in the Original Daly City neighborhood. The school is exceptionally diverse, with many languages spoken on campus. Woodrow Wilson also faces many challenges including the Bay Area’s widening income inequality gap. 68% of students qualify for free or reduced price school lunch and many families struggle to keep up with the region’s skyrocketing cost of living. A community food bank is held every month at Woodrow Wilson and has seen increasing numbers of people requiring its services. Woodrow Wilson has made major gains under the leadership of Principal Sara Rich. Statewide assessment scores in Math and English Language Arts are up significantly. Until recently, Woodrow Wilson was the only elementary school in Daly City without any green space for kids to play. That changed when a group of parents and community members came together to raise over $100,000 to install a large turf field and school garden in 2018. Since it was installed, the field has been in constant use by students during the school day and by neighborhood families on the weekends. Designed for soccer, the field is used for a wide range of physical activity including gymnastics, yoga, soccer and other sports.
