Become a built-in best friend to a patient in need and volunteer with Elara Caring Hospice, where we deliver intensely individualized care to our patients wherever they call home. As a companionship volunteer, you will gain useful soft and hard skills while improving health outcomes for terminally-ill patients through one-on-one visits that meet the patient’s needs for social and emotional connections, providing respite to caregivers to prevent burnout, or by assisting with minor tasks to make the lives of the patient and caregiver easier, such as taking the family dog for a walk or picking up a grocery order. "Hospice exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care and the promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs, patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them." - National Hospice Organization The By Your Side program at Elara Caring is designed to help provide extremely individualized care for patients, especially as their needs change. As a By Your Side volunteer with Elara Caring Hospice, you will have the opportunity to provide companionship, presence, and emotional support to patients and their families during these times of increased need, but especially as the patient is identified as imminently passing. This support can look like many different things, including bedside vigiling for patients in facilities and private residences, providing spiritual support to family members, or simply being present and lending an ear. As a volunteer, you truly are by your patient’s side. Are you looking for a way to boost your resume, learn new skills, and give back to those in need? Join the Elara Caring Hospice team and earn your Advanced Hospice Volunteer Certification in as just 40 hours of service! Our Certified Advanced Hospice Volunteers earn their certification through the completion of 40 service hours completed from a minimum of two service categories. These service categories include Patient Companionship, Caregiver Respite, Healthcare Administration, Bereavement, Community Outreach, and Special Projects, with activities ranging from assisting a hospice team member (Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Medical Social Worker, Chaplain, Volunteer Coordinator) in the field to becoming a mentor to a new or teen volunteer. Completing your Advanced Hospice Volunteer certification is commemorated with a certificate of achievement and letter detailing your unique service experience, in addition to a small token of appreciation from your Volunteer Coordinator. Learn and utilize interpersonal skills and gain experience in emotional support by becoming a bereavement volunteer with Elara Caring Hospice, where we care where you are. Bereavement refers to when someone has lost a person they love, and it is often one of the hardest parts of a person’s life. Our bereavement volunteers provide company and emotional support to the families of our patients who have passed, in addition to creating condolence cards and assisting our Social Worker and Chaplain by making bereavement phone calls. This is an easy and meaningful volunteer opportunity for anyone who wants to give back to those in need.
