Mission Statement

The Simon Community has been working since 1963 to alleviate the isolation of people sleeping rough, provide a place where they can gain a sense of belonging and foster the skills they need to move towards independent living. We are a community of homeless people and volunteers living and working together in a spirit of love, acceptance, tolerance and understanding. We aim to reach out to support and campaign for people who are experiencing homelessness, and particularly those for whom no other provision exists.

Description

The Simon Community is first and foremost a community of people - previously homeless residents, live-in volunteers, street homeless guests, staff, part-time volunteers, trustees, and many more supporters and friends. We live and work together, being alongside each other in community to offer a sense of belonging and acceptance. Our live-in volunteers share a home with previously homeless residents, who together deliver outreach services to those still living on the streets, providing hospitality, hot drinks, and food. We run nine different services throughout the week, including early morning tea runs and late evening street work, an evening centre on Tuesdays, soup run on Thursdays and a street cafe on Sunday.
