Scope of project We need your help! Over the years, many devoted members have donated their aviation book collections. As a result, we have approximately 10,000 books which need to be catalogued by September, 2022, or until all books have been entered. Volunteers in this position will mostly sit at a desk as they enter book information to our internal library system. We will train you and be available for software support during all shifts. Aviation experience and knowledge is a plus, but is not required. However, if you have an interest in aviation, this work would be very interesting because of the plethora of books you’ll be exposed to. Our office is located in the historic Flabob Airport (Riverside County) which is a location of great interest to those with a passion for aviation. Please only apply if you are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays from 11am-3pm as this work is only done on our premises during these hours. Volunteers are welcome to help any or all of the days each week. We greatly appreciate your interest. Thank you for your interest in The American Aviation Historical Society!

AAHS desperately needs volunteers who can come into the AAHS office and help with the identification of thousands of aviation photos that have been donated to the society. These photos have been scanned, but need information about the photo to be recorded in the image database. Once trained, this activity can be done remotely, in the comfort of your own home (with a computer and internet access). AAHS also has a 9,000 volume book collection that also needs cataloging into the library collection software. This does not require aviation knowledge, but a love of books and the knowledge this library will be used for researchers and students alike. Our office needs other regular administrative tasks, such as keeping our membership database accurate and answering mail. Finally, we need to bring our old-school organization into the 21st century and start using social media tools, and can use a volunteer to help us understand the best ways to do this (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc). We have many opportunities for absorbing and educational service!

Since 1956, the American Aviation Historical Society (AAHS) has preserved and shared publicly the rich heritage of American aviation. We maintain an extensive collection of books, documents and photographs that are available to researchers and aviation enthusiasts. The IRS recognizes AAHS as a 501(c)(3) educational organization. Quarterly, we publish a hard copy AAHS Journal and an electronic newsletter, the AAHS FlightLine. Both provide interesting and often little-known facts associated with American aviation. Although the hard copy journal is included with our annual memberships, rising publishing and postage costs have begun to deplete funds available to run our operations. Even a recent increase in membership pricing is inadequate to meet the financial demands we face. AAHS is eager to work with experienced grant writers for the purpose of receiving grants to support our mission. Volunteers accepted for these positions can work at home or in either of our California offices (Riverside or Huntington Beach). Grant writers will work closely with our personnel to accurately complete grant applications. Thank you for your interest!
