Mission Statement

We are an Asheville-based nonprofit on a mission to inspire and teach kids to read.

Description

Started by community activists in 2011, Read to Succeed Asheville/Buncombe has grown into a 200+ volunteer member organization that works with hundreds of elementary students in our local schools. Our vision is that all children in our community are skilled and engaged readers. That’s why we train volunteers to tutor K-3rd students one-to-one in our local Asheville City and Buncombe County schools to support them in learning to read at grade level.

Students who aren't reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are 4x more likely to drop out of school. Our committed and passionate volunteers work to help close the literacy achievement gap and offer the support students need to succeed both in school and in life. After training, volunteers serve just one hour a week tutoring their student in-school.
